These peach-filled cinnamon dumplings are the kind of dessert that tastes far more impressive than the effort required to make them. They’ve been a favorite for years, and despite their homemade, special-occasion feel, they’re simple enough for a young cook to prepare. Sweet peaches are wrapped in crescent dough, covered with a buttery cinnamon-sugar mixture, and baked until golden. Served warm with vanilla ice cream, they make an irresistible treat.
Ingredients
- 2 (15-ounce) cans peaches, drained
- 2 (8-ounce) packages refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups Sprite or another citrus-flavored soda
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Thoroughly grease a 9 × 13-inch baking dish and set it aside.
- Prepare the Crescent Dough: Unroll the refrigerated crescent dough and separate it into individual triangles.
- Fill the Dough: Place one or two peach slices at the wider end of each dough triangle, depending on the size of the peach pieces. Sprinkle a small pinch of cinnamon over the peaches.
- Wrap the Peaches: Roll the crescent dough around the peach slices, making sure the dough is securely wrapped around the filling.
- Arrange the Dumplings: Transfer each completed peach dumpling to the prepared baking dish. Continue filling and rolling the remaining dough until all the dumplings have been assembled.
- Make the Cinnamon Butter Mixture: Melt the two sticks of butter in a large bowl. Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and the remaining cinnamon. Stir everything together until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Coat the Dumplings: Use a large spoon to pour the buttery cinnamon-sugar mixture over the tops of the dumplings, distributing it as evenly as possible.
- Add the Citrus Soda: Pour the Sprite around the dumplings in the baking dish, taking care not to pour it directly over the tops of the dough. Keeping the soda around the dough helps the tops develop a crisp crust as they bake.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crescent dough is lightly browned on top.
- Serve Warm: Remove the dumplings from the oven and serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
